Surfing on Tamarindo Beach, Costa Rica


Tamarindo has all the facilities and services of Costa Rican beach town like surf, sand, and sun. Tamarindo is the ideal place for weddings, honeymoons, families, and for those wonderfully suited eco-adventurers. Tamarindo offers first class sports like Tamarindo surfing, sailing, fishing, diving, turtle watching, canopy tours, horseback riding, beauty spa, golfing, and ATV tours. The sun shines about 365 days per year, and the temperature of the place is pleasantly warm from year round. May through October is their rainy season wherein you can expect a brief shower in the late afternoon, making the beach sparkle and allowing for the extraordinary sunsets. The beach is a three and a half kilometers of warm blue water and white sand. Tamarindo is surrounded by the National Parks and mountains with its breathtaking views to its east. Nature is very abundant to the place.

Dedicated surfers are constantly searching for the perfect wave. For many surfers, the search has ended in Costa Rica. They are spoiled with dozens of world class venues and no shortage of surf schools, rental outlets, and surf camps. Tamarindo is one of the best destinations for surfing as it is a great place to use as base to explore the variety of surf breaks within a very short distance. Breaks can be in a walking distance or it can be within the short drive where you can surf the place of Negra, Grande, and Avellanes.

Tamarindo remains to be the most well known and most popular surf mecca on the northern pacific coast of Costa Rica. This area is located on the coast to offer an easy access to a variety of surf breaks for all which includes rivermouth, beach, and most especially the reef breaks like Ollie’s Point and Witches Rock. Tamarindo is a great place to use as the home base to explore many of the breaks to the south and north. There are actually several breaks in town which includes the rivermouth of Tamarindo. Moreover, the real attraction of Tamarindo is its central location between the Witches Rock and the famous break of Playa Negra. Tamarindo provides an easiest place in order to explore the most surf in the shortest time possible. However, Tamarindo offers a variety of accommodations from beachfront Costa Rica Hotels, private house rentals to condominiums. Tamarindo is considered as best place on the northern pacific coast for the perfect mix of various accommodations, restaurants, nightlife, and wave. Tamarindo is a small type of beach community that draws the scuba divers, fishermen, nature lovers, and of course the surfers. Tamarindo lies between the two wildlife national parks and is consist of only one main road upon which lie the variety of cabinas, restaurants, and hotels that have arisen because of the increased tourism in the area.

The first time visitors to Costa Rica definitely fall in love with the place because of the tropical paradise. Tamarindo can be accessed by paved road all the way from San Jose which is four and a half hours or it could be by shuttle plane with no boards over seven feet into the local airport.
